New Series: Books I Didn't Enjoy
The truth is, I'm not sure how many posts will be in this section or if it will get many views. I realized that I can't just write about books I love, but on the other hand, I can't think of many books I didn't enjoy off the top of my head. Either I haven't read many, or the ones I love are more memorable. Anyways, if I come up with several, they will not be objectively bad or immoral books, but simply books I didn't enjoy. I am going to start with one that will likely make people upset, but please hear me out.
Persuasion, by Jane Austen.
I'm sorry, fans. It is one of my aunt's favorite books, but she shares her name with the heroine of Persuasion... Aunt Anne showed me (an older version of) the movie when I was about 10, and I think I enjoyed it. But a few years ago, when I was on an Austen roll, I read the book. Between having seen the movie (always start with the author's version, no matter how close the movie or abridged book may be!) and having just read other, faster-paced Austen novels, I was bored throughout. It is objectively one of Austen's slower novels, with a theme of patience required of characters. As you can tell, patience has always been one of my strong suits. And sarcasm. Anyways, I have been told that I was too young and immature to appreciate it at the time, which hurt, but it was probably true. And the picture I just chose doesn't prove my position at all, but makes Persuasion look lovely and interesting. Ok, ok, after I finish Emma, my last of Austen's six main novels, I will give Persuasion another chance. In conclusion, I'm sorry for bashing Persuasion as a 13 year old, and I will give it another chance.
Stay tuned as I explain my dislike of other renowned classics... 😂 Thank you for reading. God bless us, everyone.
